The Legend behind Shravan Month-

According to ancient Hindu mythology, the Samudra Manthan or the stirring of the sea was the joint exertion of the Gods and the demons. As indicated by ancient legends, the Shravan month(Rainy Season)was the one during which the Gods and Demons chose to stir the sea to choose who among them was the strongest. The Gods and demons had agreed to share the ‘ Amrit’ equally among them. Snake Vasuki, who is portrayed on Lord Shiva’s neck and Mandara Parvat, was utilized for the Manthan.

It is said that 14 sorts of divine things emerged from the ocean. A countless measure of pearls and gems alongside the poison (Halahal) came out of the sea. In any case, the demons and the Gods were uncertain of how to manage the poison, as it could destroy everything. Lord Shiva at that point came to the rescue and put away this poison in his throat, which got blue. Consequently, He earned the name Neelkanth.

Lord Shiva bestowed life to everybody in this world by drinking the ruinous poison, this is the reason this whole month is devoted to him and is viewed as exceptionally auspicious. The effect of this poison was strong to such an extent that Lord Shiva needed to wear a bow moon of his head and all the Gods began offering him the blessed water from the river Ganges so that poison is restrained. As these events occurred during this month that is the reason this Shravan month is considered extremely auspicious.

As indicated by ancient sacred writings like Skanda Purana, the Bel tree emerged out of the sweat droplets of Goddess Parvati, which dropped on the Mandrachal Mountain. It is said that she lives in these trees in the entirety of her structures; in the leaves, flowers, fruit, and roots. Because of this reason, Lord Shiva is extremely attached to the Bilwa tree and its leaves.

According to Puranas and Vedas, an offering of Bel Patra has a much deeper significance in Hindu worship customs. The leaves of the Bilwa tree are trifoliate which in Hindu conviction implies the sacred Trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The sacred texts additionally express, that the leaf, symbolizes the three eyes of Lord Shiva. As such Lord Shiva the gentile Lord, was extremely fond of Bilwa leaves. It is said that the person who offers bel Patra to the Shivling with dedication, Lord Shiva bestows him/her with whatever he/she wants.
